The moving of the church building was an ordeal of faith and work. The building had to be placed on a truck and moved to a barge where it was transported down the Teche Bayou to its new location. Once there, it had to be placed on a truck again and moved through a sugar cane field to its current location at 2857 Chitimacha Trail across from the Post Office. It was during this time, that Bro. Bobby Hodnett became the pastor of Little Pass Baptist Mission full time.
It is nothing less than a miracle from God how the church was able to acquire the lot it now sits on. The church grew and grew until it had outgrown its old building. The men of the church broke ground to build a new sanctuary. They did much of the work in building the new church by laying the foundation, welding the steel structure, and completing the interior. The church was aided greatly with expert help and assistance from a former Chief of the Chitimach Indian Reservation, Nic Stouf. As the church continued to grow, a new fellowship addition was added and then a new education building. Soon, we hope to build a youth facility and add a balcony to the sanctuary. The church was moved from a mission status to a fully constituted church in 1989.
The story would not be complete without mentioning Rev. Bobby Hodnett. Bro. Hodnett came to First Baptist Church in Franklin in 1968 as their minister of music and mission pastor. In addition to his duties at First Baptist, he pastored the Myette Point Baptist Mission for a number of years. While pastoring at Myette Point, Bro. Bobby was approached by some believers from the Charenton area about the need for the Little Pass Baptist Mission work to be revived. He was asked to come and establish a Bible Study which he did. From that Bible study, the work was revived and began to to grow once again. Eventually, God moved him from Myette Point to Little Pass as pastor where the church saw tremendous growth. At the time of his passing, Bro. Hodnett served as the Associate Pastor at Little Pass and the mission pastor at Cypremort Point Baptist Mission. The church as well as the communiuty is indebted to him for his great leadership, missionary zeal and spirit of Christ. He had also been a legend for over 40 years in missions and evangelism for South Louisiana.
